IBAN (CH...)

International Bank Account Number

Simple Definition

The unique address of your bank account. Swiss IBANs always start with "CH" followed by 19 digits.

Why this matters to Expats.

The only number that matters. Forget "Account Number" or "Sort Code". In Switzerland, you just send the IBAN. It encodes the bank, the branch, and your account.

Actionable Intelligence

Safety: You can safely share your IBAN to receive money. People cannot pull money OUT with just the IBAN (unlike in the US with ACH numbers).

QR-IBAN: A special type of IBAN used ONLY for generating QR Bills. You cannot make a normal transfer to a QR-IBAN.
