Simple Definition

The amount that actually hits your bank account after Social Security (AHV/IV/EO), Unemployment (ALV), Pension (BVG), and Accident Insurance (NBU) are deducted.

Why this matters to Expats.

Expect a deduction of ~15-20% from your Gross. Note for B-Permits: Withholding Tax (Quellensteuer) is deducted AFTER the Net Salary calculation in most payroll software, reducing the payout further.

Actionable Intelligence

Check the Payslip: If "NBU" (Non-Occupational Accident Insurance) is missing, you might be illegally uninsured. The employer MUST deduct it (or pay it for you).
