Continued Pay during Sickness
Simple Definition
Your right to be paid while sick. In the first year, the law (Basel Scale) only guarantees 3 weeks of pay!
Why this matters to Expats.
Shockingly low protection. Most good employers buy "KTG" (Daily Sickness Insurance) which pays 80% of salary for 730 days. If your contract says "No KTG", you are at risk.
Actionable Intelligence
The 2-Day Rule: Most companies require a doctor's note (Arztzeugnis) only after the 3rd day of sickness. Abuse this and they can demand it from Day 1.
