Accident Coverage

Simple Definition

Coverage for medical costs arising from accidents. If you work more than 8 hours/week, your employer covers this (NBU). If not, you must add it to your private health insurance (LAMal). Employer coverage is generally superior as it has no deductible.

Why this matters to Expats.

A classic double-payment trap. If you are employed, you are already covered for occupational AND non-occupational accidents by your company. You do NOT need "Accident" on your private health insurance. Check your policy—you might be paying twice for the same thing.

Actionable Intelligence

Check Your Policy: If you have a job (8h+), email your health insurer "Please remove Accident Inclusion as I am covered by UVG/NBU."

Savings: This saves 5-7% on your premium instantly.

Unemployment: RAV covers you for accidents while you are job hunting.
