About Prime Relocation

Prime Relocation is a relocation agency based in Zug that helps expats, families and HR teams move to Switzerland. The firm was founded in Zug in 2006, describes itself as family-owned and has been led since 2013 by its managing owner, Kati Kägi. From the Prime Relocation Zug office on Industriestrasse, the consultants cover Zurich, Zug, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne and Lucerne as their main regions, plus Liechtenstein, and take on moves to other cantons too.

Home search is the centre of the business. After a call about budget, commute, schools and lifestyle, the team checks listings every day and asks its landlord and broker contacts about flats that never reach the portals. Consultants go to the viewings with you, prepare the application in the form Swiss letting agencies expect and follow it up, then review the lease and attend the move-in inspection. In Zurich, Geneva or Zug that paperwork matters: salary slips, permit, references from former landlords and the Betreibungsauszug, the debt-collection extract, decide who gets the flat. The agency's own figure for the time to a signed lease is four to eight weeks, and the search can start before you arrive, with video viewings.

The other arrival services are built around the search. The team prepares L, B and C permit applications and family reunification for EU/EFTA and non-EU nationals, submits them to the cantonal office and completes the registration at the commune, which is due within 14 days of moving in. It finds furnished temporary apartments for a few weeks up to six months, compares international, bilingual and public schools and handles the applications, runs orientation tours of one or two days, and helps with the bank account, health insurance (compulsory within three months of registering), utilities and exchanging a foreign driving licence.

Employers can use a corporate programme: a Swiss addendum to their relocation policy, agreed service levels, regular reporting with budget tracking and satisfaction surveys, and delivery for anything from a single executive to a group of more than 100 employees. The firm also acts as Swiss destination partner for international relocation management companies. Banking, pharma, technology and international organisations are named as its main client sectors, and it says it has handled more than 2,500 relocations.

Prime Relocation is a member of EuRA and has held the EuRA Global Quality Seal since August 2016, at the Plus level according to its own site, with a recertification every two years. The team page lists twelve consultants alongside the owner, several of whom speak Italian or Spanish as well as English, German and French. A first 30-minute video consultation is free, and the office takes calls Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00, with weekend appointments on request.

What Prime Relocation does

Home search

It starts with a call about budget, commute, schools and lifestyle. The team then checks listings every day and asks its landlord and broker network about flats that are not advertised. Consultants book and attend viewings, prepare the application in the form Swiss letting agencies expect and follow it up. Once a flat is secured, they review the lease, attend the move-in inspection and help with utilities and registration. The search can start remotely, with video viewings, before you arrive.

Work and residence permits

The team gathers the documents (employment contract, passport, proof of housing, health insurance and the canton's own forms), submits the application to the right cantonal office and tracks it. Once the permit is approved, they collect it with you and complete the registration at your commune. Prime covers L, B and C permits, family reunification and both the EU/EFTA and non-EU routes, and plans with roughly six to twelve weeks for a B permit.

Temporary accommodation

While the long-term search runs, Prime finds furnished serviced apartments or short-term rentals in Zurich, Zug, Geneva, Basel and Lausanne, usually for one to three months, with terms from two weeks up to six months. In most units the rent includes electricity, heating, water and internet, and costs are set out before you commit. A local address also lets you register and open a bank account sooner.

School search

Prime looks at each child's age and curriculum needs, weighs IB and bilingual programmes against the free local public schools, and builds a shortlist. It organises campus visits, helps with forms, assessments and interviews, and follows up with admissions offices in Zurich, Zug, Geneva, Basel and Lausanne. Because popular international schools can have waiting lists of one to two years, it advises starting six to twelve months before the move.

Orientation tours

A questionnaire before the tour sets out your must-haves and deal-breakers. A local consultant then spends one or two days showing you three to five neighbourhoods, schools, shops and doctors, and tests the commute. Afterwards you receive a written summary of the pros and cons of each area to steer the home search. Tours comparing several cities, say Zurich and Basel, can be arranged too.

Settling-in support

Prime helps with the admin of the first weeks: registering at the commune within 14 days, choosing health insurance before the three-month deadline, opening a bank account, contracts for electricity, internet and a mobile phone, and exchanging a foreign driving licence, which for most EU and US licences has to happen within 12 months. Consultants book the appointments, explain forms in German or French and come along where it helps.

Corporate relocation

For HR and mobility teams, Prime reviews current practice, drafts a Swiss addendum to the relocation policy, agrees service levels and a reporting rhythm, then delivers housing, permits, schools and settling in for each employee. Reporting covers activity, budget, satisfaction surveys and compliance documents. It handles single executives up to groups of more than 100 people and works as the Swiss destination partner for international relocation management companies.

Prices and how Prime Relocation charges

Prime Relocation does not publish fixed prices. Its site says fees depend on how complex the case is, the location and the timeline, and are laid out in an individual service agreement for each engagement, together with the payment terms. Fees for work already done are not refundable, except where Swiss law says otherwise. You receive a personal quote after a free 30-minute video consultation. Orientation tours are priced by city, length and how tailored the programme is. Many employers include Prime's services in their relocation package, so it is worth asking HR before you pay yourself. For temporary housing the rent is paid separately: Prime quotes typical market rents of CHF 2,500 to 5,000 a month for a furnished one- or two-bedroom apartment in Zurich or Zug, with Geneva and Basel similar.
