About RelEx

RelEx is the short name of Relocation & Expat Services GmbH, a relocation company entered in the commercial register in 2022 and based in Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich. Founder Sandra Burki spent several years living and working abroad before setting it up, and the consultants she has brought together have their own experience of arriving in a new country. The team works for private individuals and families as well as for companies that bring staff to Switzerland, and each service can be booked on its own, so you only pay for the parts of the move you want help with.

Finding a flat is the heart of what RelEx does. After a questionnaire or video call to pin down budget, area and must-haves, the team scans portals, agencies, social media and private contacts every day and books viewings. If you are still abroad, a consultant goes in your place and sends photos and video. They put together a Swiss-style application with a motivation letter and the documents landlords expect, such as the Betreibungsauszug from the debt collection register, speak to the agency or landlord directly and check the lease before you sign. On request, someone also comes to the handover.

The service area is Zurich, Zug and Lucerne. A RelEx Zurich search and one in Zug or Lucerne follow the same steps, but the local knowledge differs: one consultant has lived in Zurich for more than 35 years, another has made Zug home since 1980 and also shows clients around Lucerne. If you are torn between cantons, the welcome tour takes you through towns and villages in the canton you choose and explains transport, banks, doctors and Swiss house rules.

Beyond housing, the team helps with registration at the Gemeinde or Kreisbüro, which is due within 14 days of arrival, with residence and work permit applications and renewals, and with visa steps for family members. Settling-in support covers bank accounts, insurance and utilities, visits to local, bilingual or international schools and day-care centres, and finding a nanny, cleaner, handyman or dog sitter. A temporary apartment or hotel can be booked for the first weeks, and local or international moves can be organised, including packing and customs clearance.

When you leave, RelEx gives notice on your lease, finds a replacement tenant if you need to leave early, cancels utility contracts, books the final cleaning to Swiss handover standard and deregisters you with the municipality. The easiest way to start is the contact form, where you tick the services you are interested in and ask for a short introduction meeting or a non-binding offer.

What RelEx does

Welcome tour

A guided exploration of the canton you are considering, with stops in several towns and villages so you can compare surroundings, commute and atmosphere. Along the way you learn how local infrastructure works, from public transport and banks to doctors, and get a first briefing on Swiss customs, rules and everyday etiquette. It helps you narrow down where to search before the home search begins.

Home search

The team defines your criteria, screens the market daily through agencies, portals, social media and private contacts, and books viewings. If you cannot travel, a consultant views the flat for you and records it on photo and video. RelEx then prepares a personal application dossier with a motivation letter, submits it, talks to the landlord or agency directly, checks the lease before signing and can attend the handover on request.

Temporary housing

For the first weeks in Switzerland, RelEx suggests a choice of temporary apartments or hotels, books the one you pick and coordinates the handover of keys. Having a temporary base means you can view flats in person and deal with registration calmly instead of committing to a long lease in a hurry, which is easy to regret in a tight rental market.

Registration and permits

Help with registering at your municipality and reporting a change of address, guidance on applying for and renewing residence and work permits, coordination with the immigration office, and step-by-step support with visa procedures for family members joining you. Registration at the local Gemeinde or Kreisbüro is due within 14 days of arrival, so it pays to plan it alongside the housing search.

Settling in and schooling

Setting up a bank account, insurance policies and utility contracts; visiting local, bilingual or international schools and day-care centres; and finding a language school, nanny, housekeeper, handyman or dog sitter. Accompanying partners and children get support too, including ideas for leisure activities, so the whole family finds its feet in the new town rather than just the employee.

Moving services

Moves within Switzerland and to or from abroad, including careful packing and unpacking of household goods, transport, full customs clearance for international shipments and end-of-tenancy cleaning for the flat you leave behind. Booking the move together with the home search or departure service means one contact person keeps the dates and handovers aligned.

Departure service

Leaving a Swiss flat follows its own rules. RelEx gives notice on your lease and, if you need to leave before the contractual date, looks for a replacement tenant. It cancels your utility contracts, organises the final cleaning to Swiss handover standard, handles the handover with the landlord including the written report, and deregisters you at the municipality.

Support for companies

HR teams can hand over the post-arrival phase for international hires. RelEx takes care of housing, registration, schools and everyday administration so that new employees and their families settle in properly and can concentrate on the new job. Companies pick the services they want for each employee instead of buying a fixed package, which keeps the scope clear.

Prices and how RelEx charges

RelEx does not publish prices on its website. Services are offered à la carte rather than as a fixed package, so the cost depends on which ones you book. Through the contact form you can tick the services you are interested in and ask for a short introduction meeting or a non-binding offer for exactly those services.

Questions about RelEx

What does RelEx do?

RelEx (Relocation & Expat Services GmbH) supports expats moving to Switzerland with a welcome tour, home search, temporary housing, registration and permits, settling in and schooling, moves and departure. Home search is the core of its work, and every service can be booked individually, for private clients as well as for companies.

Which cities does RelEx cover?

RelEx offers its services in Zurich, Zug and Lucerne. One consultant has lived in Zurich for more than 35 years, and another has lived in Zug since 1980 and also covers Lucerne. The company's registered office is in Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich, and the first step is usually a questionnaire or a video call.

How much does RelEx cost?

RelEx does not publish prices online. Because services are chosen à la carte, the cost depends on what you book. The contact form lets you tick the services you want and request a short introduction meeting or a non-binding offer, so you can see the price before you commit.

Can RelEx search for a flat while I am still abroad?

Yes. RelEx can run the search remotely: a consultant attends viewings in your place and documents the flat with photos and video, prepares and submits your application dossier and deals with the landlord or agency. The lease is checked before you sign, and on request a consultant can also be present at the handover.

Does RelEx help with permits and registration?

Yes. RelEx helps you register with the local authorities after arrival, guides you through residence and work permit applications and renewals, liaises with the immigration office and supports visa steps for accompanying family members. Registration at the municipality is normally due within 14 days of moving in.

Who is RelEx for: companies or private clients?

Both. Private clients and families can pick exactly the services they need, including support for partners and children. Companies use RelEx to take the settling-in workload off their HR team, so that new international employees and their families are looked after while they start the job.

How do I contact RelEx?

Fill in the enquiry form on the RelEx website, email welcome@rel-ex.ch or call +41 79 858 04 77. The form asks for your relocation area and the services you are interested in, which helps the team come back with a suitable proposal or suggest a short introduction meeting.
