A move within the canton is announced to the OCPM within 14 days. Landlords and managers announce tenants’ entries and exits, and tenants those of subtenants, in the same period; holders of a driving licence tell the Office cantonal des véhicules, and families with children in public schools notify the school separately (Canton of Geneva, checked ).
A removal lorry or lift on public ground in the City of Geneva needs a permission and a fee from the Service de l’espace public, boulevard Helvétique 29. The application goes in at least ten working days before the occupation (City of Geneva, checked ). The fixed fee depends on the duration: article 4(a) of the cantonal tariff sets CHF 10 per square metre occupied for up to seven days, and no administrative charge is added (Canton of Geneva, checked ) (City of Geneva, checked ).
Anyone leaving the canton announces the departure to the OCPM two weeks before the date, and a departure attestation can be ordered for customs, banking or consular formalities (Canton of Geneva, checked ). Newcomers announce their arrival to the cantonal population and migration office (OCPM), route de Chancy 88 in Onex (ge.ch OCPM, checked ). Most procedures run online through an e-démarches account on ge.ch, and the counters open by appointment only.
