Vaud's standard tenancy terms (RULV) apply to every lease signed in the canton and repeat the cap of three months' net rent (Canton of Vaud, checked ) (Canton of Vaud (RULV), checked ). Proof that the deposit exists is due within 30 days of signing and at the latest on move-in, and it is held at a bank under Swiss banking law or through a surety organisation (Canton of Vaud (RULV), checked ). Cash paid to the landlord has to go within ten days into a passbook in the tenant's name, and withdrawals need both signatures or a court decision (Canton of Vaud (RULV), checked ).
The city adds that a surety company can advance the amount against interest paid by the tenant (lausanne.ch, checked ). The entry inventory is part of the lease, and the flat is handed back at noon on the day the lease ends (Canton of Vaud (RULV), checked ). The deposit is released automatically when no court action follows within a year after the tenant leaves (Canton of Vaud (RULV), checked ).
A dispute over the deposit goes first to the conciliation commission, whose requests for Lausanne are handled at the Préfecture, Place du Château 1.
