Horgen's Schulverwaltung at Dorfplatz 1 (044 728 42 77) serves the school units Allmend, Bergli, Hirzel, Rotweg, Tannenbach and Waldegg, a Kleingruppenschule and the town's single lower secondary centre (Schule Horgen, checked ) (Schule Horgen, checked ). Kindergarten starts after the summer holidays for children who turn four by 31 July; places are allocated mainly by geography, the school board can defer entry by one year on a written request, and proof of a medical check-up has to be handed in at entry (Schule Horgen, checked ).
Before kindergarten, the municipality operates the Kita Berghalden, with 72 places in six mixed-age groups for children from three months, and a second municipal Kita on Stockerstrasse (Gemeinde Horgen, checked ) (Gemeinde Horgen, checked ).
