Riehen’s own family doctors run an emergency service that answers round the clock and makes home visits; the commune supports it with an on-call payment. At weekends the commune’s page names the Medizinische Notrufzentrale, 061 261 15 15, and 144 for ambulances (Gemeinde Riehen, checked ). The hospitals it lists are the St. Claraspital at Kleinriehenstrasse 30 in Basel (061 685 85 85), the Universitäts-Kinderspital beider Basel at Spitalstrasse 33 and the Universitätsspital Basel at Spitalstrasse 21 (Gemeinde Riehen, checked ). Home nursing and help at home (Spitex) are available for longer illness or lasting care needs (Gemeinde Riehen, checked ).
The Schulzahnpraxis Bettingen Riehen at Schmiedgasse 23 (061 641 68 00, Monday to Friday 8:00 to 18:00) has served pupils of both communes since 1 July 2014. School check-ups and group prophylaxis cost parents nothing; treatment, including emergency care after tooth accidents, is billed at the accident-insurance (UVG) tariff, and low-income families receive reductions from the commune (Gemeinde Riehen, checked ).
For 2027 the FOPH lists CHF 570.60 a month as the average adult premium in Basel-Stadt (FOPH, checked ). From June to August the Aktiv! im Sommer programme gives residents free outdoor exercise classes (Gemeinde Riehen, checked ).
